We will buy your unwanted bird. If you have a pet bird who has turned mean or you no longer have the time for it, Please call us. Most of the birds listed in classified ads are there because of reasons like this and since there are so many, it is very hard to sell yours. Besides their being so many listed, nobody wants to buy a bird more than six months old that has already developed bad habits. Since this is the case, most sellers get discouraged and end up giving the bird away or donating the bird to a bird adoption organization.
Here is what happens when you give the bird away: The new owner eventually becomes frustrated, runs out of patience, no longer has the time for the bird or gives up just like you did. Most parrots live many, many years so this is a long time for the bird to just keep getting passed around. These birds usually become feather pluckers over the stress caused by the constant moves.
On the other hand you could donate the bird to a local rescue. Here is what happens when you do that: Have you ever gone to a rescue? You see the same birds over and over again. They usually don't get placed because no one wants a problem bird. Again this is why many of them a become feather pluckers. For this reason, the rescues become overstocked. Since they are non-for profit organizations, they cannot afford to be overstocked with birds and the workers homes are already filled with birds they kept for themselves. In order to place a bird, you must advertise it and most of these organizations do not have the budget for that. By the way, non-for profit organizations do charge for the bird that they got for free. If and when they do place it, that is.
If you answer a classified ad that says, "I will take your unwanted bird", or "I am looking for a bird for myself but I don't have any money", the recipient is just a scammer looking to amass free birds to resell for a profit to whoever will give him a few bucks for the bird he just scored for free. This is bad, because the reseller does not care at all about the birds and certainly doesn't care who ends up buying the birds. This is even worse than giving away the bird or donating it to a bird adoption agency. This problem is so prolific that most websites are starting to ban people from placing ads requesting to be given free birds.
Here is where we come in. Instead of giving the bird away, why not at least get a few bucks for it. Will you get top dollar for your problem or unwanted bird? Of course not, but how has it been going so far? Chances are that you are reading this because you have already been trying to get what you thought was reasonable for your unwanted bird and you are now realizing why we call them "unwanted". Nobody is willing to pay for them. If they are willing to pay for a bird, they want a cute, fuzzy, baby that they can hand raise themselves.
If we buy your unwanted bird and offer you a lower amount that you originally wanted, will we sell it for a profit later? Hopefully!! But not after we put a lot of love, care and money into it to help it to become a wanted bird. We have spent thousands of dollars trying to help feather pluckers, biters and screamers to become wanted and loved family pets. It is possible to turn your vicious bird into a family pet, but it takes months, even years to do. So if you think that we are going to just buy your bird for $200.00 and sell it for $400.00, consider the months of labor it will take (yes we do pay our employees). The food the bird will consume alone will be more than that.
We are also very selective as to whom we place our birds with. One of our "recycled" birds is now Michael Jordans Neighbor with his own indoor aviary. This bird went from being passed around from home to home and getting stressed over it, to living in the lap of luxury with all kinds of fresh fruits and veggies every day. It has new toys, other birds to hang around with and loving caring owners. Let me tell you, these new owners were not shopping at a bird rescue. They too wanted a healthy, happy bird, which we were able to provide them with.
Even if the bird is so mean that it seems it will never make a good pet again, it can still have a wonderful life as a breeder. We can match it up with another similar bird in a similar situation and save both their lives. This is only done in a last resort but it is not bad at all. We have seen severe feather pluckers who nobody would ever want and whose resulting skin problems were so bad the owners were considering putting the birds to sleep. These bird's live were changed when they were paired up with a mate and now they are living a wonderful new life with their new partner. Most of the time, this resolves the plucking problem completely. Now they are both fully feathered and producing beautiful offspring.
With all the costs of the rehabilitation, bird food and housing as well as placement and advertising, unfortunately, it does not leave any profit in the end. This is definitely a labor of love rather than a profitable business. If we could place these birds for free we would and if you would like to make a donation, or just donate your bird, that would be greatly appreciated but we are not asking for that, we are willing to pay you for the bird.
This is a win, win situation for everybody. You are frustrated at this point and would probably give the bird away for free if you knew it would go to a good home but now you don't have to.
-You will get at least some money for the bird.
-The bird will benefit from all of the loving, caring and attention it will get from us and will eventually end up in a wonderful new permanent home.
-The bird's new family will be happy that they did not have to pay an arm and a leg to get a wonderful new addition to their family.
Hopefully maybe some day we can break even for our efforts but if we don't at least we know we did the best thing for the birds.
Please do the right thing for your bird and don't try to just get a few bucks more by selling out your bird's future. Think about it, anybody shopping around for the cheapest price on a used bird in a classified ad is probably not going to be the one to give your old friend the best life they deserve, are they? We can help your bird and as a bonus, you will even get some money in your pocket as well.
